I started making clothes in 2012, with no training and no real plan, just a refusal to wait until I felt ready. I did a summer at Central Saint Martins, and finished undergrad in 2018 at Ashesi in Ghana. Faith sits underneath all of it. I don't perform it– It's the foundation that everything emerges from.

Here's what actually drives me: most of what leaves this continent leaves as raw material. Cocoa leaves as cocoa. Gold leaves as gold. Someone else finishes it, names it, and sells it back to us at a markup. I got tired of watching that happen to everything except the story. So I make the finished thing, here, under my own name, and I'll probably keep saying that until it stops being necessary to say.

I'm not trying to be Africa's answer to Paris or Milan. We're already at the table. I'd just like everyone else to notice.
