Sustainability Commitment
Introduction
At Vexxels, sustainability is not a trend - it is the foundation of how we create, source, and deliver fashion. As a Ghanaian-owned brand, we are committed to reducing waste, honoring craftsmanship, and building long-term value in our production model.
Made-To-Order Model
Each Vexxels piece is produced only after an order is placed. This model prevents overproduction,
limits waste, and ensures intentional craftsmanship. Our pieces typically take one to two years from
concept to final production, reflecting our commitment to quality and creative integrity.
Limited Retail Stocking
We partner with a select number of retailers who:
– Stock Vexxels pieces in very limited quantities
– Replenish only after existing inventory is fully sold
– Share our commitment to sustainability and African creative excellence
Fabric Selection & Sourcing
– Our fabrics are primarily natural: linen, cotton, and other tree-derived materials.
– We incorporate polyester only when necessary, making up 15-20% of a garment’s composition.
– All polyester is sourced through vetted international suppliers, particularly in China, and we are
gradually developing long-term ethical sourcing relationships.
Fabric Waste Management
– Leftover fabric is currently repurposed by a collaborator who crafts fascinators and other
accessories.
– We are exploring partnerships that can transform waste into construction materials – though that
initiative is currently on hold.
– We remain open to sustainable innovations for turning fabric waste into functional or artistic value.
Thoughtful Design for Longevity
– Vexxels garments are made with 2-3 inches of built-in allowance, allowing for future size
adjustments and longer use.
– Clients often return for custom alterations, and we encourage long-term wear over seasonal
consumption.
Eco-Conscious Packaging
Our packaging is minimal and biodegradable. We use raw or brown paper to wrap and ship
garments, reducing our reliance on plastic.
Supply Chain & Ethical Relationships
– Our current suppliers are mostly international, as our local sourcing attempts were unreliable.
– While we do not yet have full transparency on supplier ethics, we are building stronger
relationships that will allow us to evaluate and share this information in the future.
Community Responsibility
– We do not currently operate a take-back or upcycling program, but we continue to explore
sustainable practices that benefit both our clients and the environment.
– We invest in our small creative team and emphasize slow fashion that empowers rather than
exploits.
